How to Work with the Libra Full Moon for Writers & Creatives

You are currently viewing How to Work with the Libra Full Moon for Writers & Creatives

The full phase is the peak of the moon’s vitality, bringing an intensity, sensitivity, and awareness not found in its other phases. Libra adds in the energy of relationships, connections, balance, artistic efforts, and harmony to the full moon’s vigor.

I know I’m biased as a Libra sun, but this is one of my favorite moons of the year. For writers and creatives, this is a gorgeous moment to refine not just our work but our relationship to the work.

Libra reminds us that creativity is not created in isolation. It exists in relation to ourselves, to our audience, to the world around us. Under this full moon, we’re invited to restore that balance and let our work reflect it.

Here are six ways to work with this harmonious energy…

Balance Your Creative Practice

Libra is on a constant search for equilibrium. I actually believe work-life balance doesn’t truly exist. We’ll always be leaning, at any given moment, more towards one than the other depending on what’s going on in our lives. But that doesn’t mean we can’t try to get there.

Some good questions to ask yourself right now:

  • Is this project aligned with my goals?
  • Is this goal balanced with other aspects of my life?
  • Does what I desire inspire beauty in me?
  • What would a more harmonious creative rhythm look like for me right now?
  • Where am I giving too much and not giving back to myself? (Yes, community is important and vital, but your needs matter as well.)
  • On the flipside, have I been centering my own needs & wants to the detriment of others in my life? (When was the last time you called a friend, family member, or fellow creative and checked in on them?)

Once you’ve reflected on these, give thanks for where things are aligned for you.

Reconnect With Creative Relationships

In classic “social butterfly” nature, Libra rules relationships, collaboration, and creative exchange. I often think of Libra as the networker of the zodiac. It carries the tremendous ability to facilitate connections. Think of someone who can go out and know someone in just about any place. That’s very air sign vibes to me. If you’re familiar with Clifton Strengths®, Woo (along with Harmony) has Libra energy in my humble opinion.

This is a beautiful time to check-in with a creative friend, collaborate on something small, introduce people in your circle who don’t know each other but whom you think would mesh, engage more meaningfully with your audience, attend a conference, and share a work-in-progress.

Libra reminds us that ideas often deepen through connection. Creativity doesn’t have to be solitary.

Add Nuance to Your Writing

As the diplomat of the zodiac, Libra has a powerful ability to see all sides of anything. This makes it incredible for deepening your storytelling. Look at your current work-in–progress and ask yourself where you could layer in some nuance to add more depth to what’s happening.

Maybe it’s adding in another POV to round out how a situation is being viewed by the characters. Maybe it’s merely deepening the one you’re in now. (My fave book on this topic is Rivet Your Readers with Deep Point of View.) Maybe it’s layering in more emotion or complexity to characters’ motivations. (Check out The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Expression and all the books in the Writers Helping Writers Series for help here.)

Play with Your Story’s Aesthetics

This moon is a permission slip to indulge your creative eye as Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, art, value, and pleasure. Use this time to gather immersive aesthetics to create moodboards; refine the visual details of your story’s setting; design covers, graphics, or branding elements; and enhance sensory descriptions.

This may seem frivolous or superficial to some, but aesthetic choices shape how your work is experienced by readers. It’s also a fun way to connect to your story if you are visually inclined.

Make a Decision

Libra’s gift of seeing all sides can sometimes morph into paralysis. (Hello, indecisiveness.) This is brought on by its diplomacy. Under a full moon, that tension often peaks. That makes this a powerful moment to consciously and mindfully choose.

This could take the form of picking between two project directions, deciding to finish or release something, or even letting go of an idea that no longer fits. What’s something you’ve been weighing? Create an old school pro and con list to help you make a decision. You don’t need perfect certainty. Only enough clarity to move forward.

Be Inspired by Life’s Beauty

There is a lot happening in the world right now, and it’s tough to find the good within the mire. But our nervous systems and our creative practices deserve some TLC, even amongst the chaos. Enter Libra.

Libra can help us find inspiration within beauty. Not just in art, but in everyday life. Are you scheduling in play? Are you taking yourself on artist dates? Are you freeing up space to remember that there is indeed still beauty and good in this messy world? When was the last time you strolled around an art museum? Many famous museums offer free virtual tours. Take one and see how it inspires you.

Other ideas: take a walk in the park or botanical garden, visit a place that feels visually or emotionally nourishing, let yourself enjoy beauty without needing to turn it into content, etc. Here’s a list of over 100 artist date ideas.

Libra teaches us that creativity is not just about expression; it’s about relationship. Be that your relationship to your work, your relationship to your audience, your relationship to the creative community, and/or your relationship to yourself.

Under this full moon, you don’t need to overhaul everything. Just bring things back into some semblance of balance and let your creations reflect that harmony.
